Alternate Story Ending: Mykal & Desmond (Envy)

Happy Thanksgiving! For many people, gathering around a table and catching up with family is a moment to look forward to. For Mykal, it’s quite the opposite. Family dinners are never something to get excited about when it comes to Mykal, and this year is no different. Desmond, however, has a better plan in mind.

Enjoy this alternate ending to Envy! I just love catching up with these two, and I hope you will too.

Love, Hate & Revenge Chapter 8: “Mickey, what the f**k?!”

The amount of fun I had writing the Love, Hate & Revenge series cannot be explained. These sisters were a pleasure to spend time with, and I made sure to find every way to check back in with them. To do so again might be too much, but thankfully, we get these chapter-by-chapter commentaries to relive some of the craziest moments… one of which is chapter 8 in LHR, pt. 3. This final installment in the series had a lot of conclusions and beginnings, and chapter 8 serves as one of those beginnings—despite how insane it happened. But what did we expect when it involves the infamous Mikayla and Philip?

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Desmond Ellis III

Desmond Ellis is a character who doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the Love is Cure series… but that’s just my opinion. He’s truly an amazing man—one who knows the meaning of sacrifice and embraces it wholeheartedly. Not only is he kind, but he’s also incredibly smart and altruistic. He has all the ingredients of the perfect book bae because, let’s be honest, he is the perfect book bae. Desmond came into Mykal’s life at exactly the right time because the path she was on wasn’t leading anywhere good. Everything changed the moment he “stole her job” 🤭.

Character Q&A: Rayelle Bell

In the heart of Miami, Florida, I found myself sitting in Rayelle’s pole dancing studio, a space that was as empowering as it was graceful. The soft hum of music filled the air as she moved around, tidying up between classes, effortlessly managing her business. The studio was a reflection of her—a blend of strength, femininity, and confidence.

Rayelle was dressed casually in workout gear, her long hair pulled back into a neat bun, exuding the same confidence and allure that had captured Mello’s attention. As she took a seat across from me, her eyes bright with energy, it was clear that she was more than just Mello’s wife—she was a woman who had built a life on her own terms.

They Call Me Mello Chapter 3: “… I’ll buy my drink and your next drink too”

Readers loved Romello “Mello” St. Claire so much in the No Fraternizing series that I had no choice but to give him a spinoff. The number of readers telling me that Lila better end up with Mello in part three was overwhelming. Suffice it to say, I was a little worried because that was not the plan at all, lol. Manny and Lila had history, and the love between them left no room for Mello, no matter how lovable and amazing he was. But I knew Mello had a love story out there waiting for him. And not just any woman would do—she had to be special enough to catch Mello’s attention and make him ready to commit. Chapter 3 introduces us to that woman at the exact moment Mello meets her, and it’s a scene to remember.

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Mykal Jones

Mykal Jones is a character who sparks strong opinions among readers. Many find her difficult to like, even after her transformation by the end of Envy, while others empathize with her choices, even if they don’t agree with them. One thing is certain—Mykal leaves a lasting impression. Her story is raw, unapologetic, and at times, challenging, but her growth? Absolutely top-tier.

Let’s dive deeper into who Mykal truly is.

Alternate Story Ending: Bryant & Zoe (Greed)

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of writing alternate story endings for Zoe and Bryant from Greed. They are complete opposites, which means there are endless conflicts that can arise from their differences, giving them endless opportunities to resolve those conflicts and grow. I don’t know—I feel like I need more time with them. They could use another story! Let me stop; the way my writing schedule is set up, I don’t even know if it’s feasible. So let’s enjoy this extra time with them… for now.

We witnessed them go from fake dating to getting engaged in Greed. Then, Zoe revealed she was pregnant in one of their Glimpses. And now, they are preparing for the next chapter in their journey… they’ll just need to sort out a minor “issue” along the way.

Loveless Chapter 2: “You’re Not Dressed Like A Cop”

I love a good meet cute. If the meet cute isn’t memorable, I’m not doing it! I want these moments to be unforgettable, the kind where, if the characters were real and aging like fine wine, they’d be telling this story to friends who lean in every time, ready to hear it for the fifty-leven time. Joi and Jeremiah’s meet cute in Loveless is one of my personal favorites. Getting pulled over by your future husband for speeding just has that little something special. And in their case, it really sets the tone.

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Zoe Stewart

Zoe Stewart is a series favorite, and for good reason. She’s down to earth, easygoing, and tells it like it is—even if her honesty might be taken the wrong way at first. Zoe values her relationships deeply and comes across as an incredibly relatable character on the page. There isn’t a single negative thing we can say about Zoe. She embodies the virtue of all virtues and was influential enough to spearhead the development of a new town that will set the stage for the next era in my book world.

Let’s get to know Zoe, now Mrs. Greene, a bit more intimately.

When Love Just Happens: Episode 13 – When Love Calls

ESME

I sat cross-legged on my bed, my eyes glued to my phone screen as it lit up with a call. I’d been watching a rerun of a 90s sitcom I’d seen too many times to count, using it as a comforting distraction from thoughts of the man now calling me—again.

Character Q&A: Xander Cox

On a sunny afternoon in Brooklyn, New York, I found myself in the bustling firehouse where Xander Cox worked as a firefighter. The space was alive with energy, filled with the sounds of laughter and camaraderie among the crew. The walls were adorned with memorabilia and photographs, showcasing the proud history of the firehouse and the brave men and women who served there.

Xander stood by the kitchen area, wearing his uniform, looking both relaxed and ready for action. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the faint scent of smoke from a recent call. As the crew wrapped up their duties, Xander’s warm smile hinted at his excitement to talk about his budding relationship with Rylee. A relationship that will be explored soon.

As we settled into the inviting break room, surrounded by the spirit of teamwork and resilience, I could feel the anticipation in the air. This was not just a conversation about work; it was about the hopeful new chapter in Xander’s life with Rylee.

Last Comes Love Chapter 10: “I’m Pregnant!”

Chapter ten in Last Comes Love is a pivotal moment, one that shifts the story from “just friends” to something much deeper. Rylee and Lennox have done the one thing they thought they’d never do together—sleep together to make a baby. While they both felt something that night, they’re still in denial, wasting time they don’t realize is in short supply. This chapter, the third in Part Two: Next Comes, is a key transition. To move forward, Rylee and Lennox have to break the news to their families that they’re having a baby, and the reveal is everything you’d expect when two lifelong friends share this kind of news with their parents.

Inside The Character: Getting to Know Rylee Daniels

Rylee Daniels is one of my favorite characters, if not my favorite, that I’ve created thus far. I don’t shy away from saying that because it’s true. I love all of my characters, but Rylee is a standout. She’s strong without realizing it, brave despite her uncertainty about where life is taking her, yet willing to go along for the ride. She stole my heart as just an idea, but when I developed her character, I fell in love with her as an individual trying to make it in the game of life. Her friendship with Lennox was one I loved exploring, and her future in my book world is a bright one.

Before we go any further, let’s get to know Rylee Daniels a little more intimately before we meet her again!

No Fraternizing, Pt. 3 Chapter 8: “… A Mutual Interest In A Business.”

The No Fraternizing series was my first completed series, and Part 1 was my very first self-published story. When I first published No Fraternizing, Pt. 1, I didn’t know what I was doing. It started as a short story with no plans to make it a series. But after readers loved it and wanted more, it grew into a full series, giving us one of my favorite chapters. By the final book, things had changed a lot since the start. Feelings and emotions are at a boiling point, especially in Chapter 8, where we find ourselves caught in the heat of a love triangle.

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Bryant Greene

Bryant Greene was a character I liked the moment I created his character summary. Besides being good friends with one of my favorite characters—Lennox Walker—Bryant’s journey to success was impressive. Now, greed is the vice I’m no fan of. I can’t take it when someone with so much still wants more, especially when that “more” means taking from people who have far less. But Bryant and his greedy ways didn’t completely turn me off. His growth in book three of the Love is Cure series was fun to write and even better to read.

Let’s get to know Mr. Greene a little more intimately.

Alternate Story Ending: Yusuf & Clarke (When Life Gives You Sunsets)

I think this might be my favorite alternate ending so far. Clarke and Yusuf were a favorite for many of my reader and for good reason. Their story, set on the beautiful island of Maui, was the perfect example of how fate can bring two people together. This alternate ending will lead into a very important scene in a future story of mine, and you’re among the few who will know the root of Clarke and Yusuf’s growth as a couple… right here in this alternate ending. Enjoy! I’m tempted to reread When Life Gives You Sunsets myself now.

Gluttony Chapter 14: “Get your disrespectful ass back in here and on this f**king mat!”

Gluttony was one of the stories in the series that made me a little nervous before I started writing. The title isn’t exactly sexy, and Gluttony as a sin is often viewed in a very one-dimensional way. But once I got into it, the characters made the story a lot of fun. Everett and Apryl, the MMC and FMC of Gluttony, were attracted to each other the moment they saw one another. But when they were finally thrown together in Chapter 14, things got heated, and the clash of two alpha personalities gave us a chapter to remember.

Inside The Character: Getting to Know Leelah Waters from Lust

Leelah Waters was our second virtue in the Love is Cure universe, and her personality is one that a lot of readers loved, myself included. She mastered the balance between her soft side and her firm, more authoritative side, creating a dynamic that Pryce Williams couldn’t wait to return to. Leelah is one of the virtues who can relate to the vice she’s paired with because, at one point in her life, she was caught up in that same vice. Some readers felt she made Pryce work too hard to earn her affections back, while others thought she didn’t make him work hard enough! Personally, I think she handled everything with the perfect amount of grace, bringing both her and her high school sweetheart to a conclusion they could enjoy and heal from—together.

Let’s get to know our girl Leelah a little more intimately.

Character Q&A: Dallas Roque

On a vibrant evening in Oakland, California, I found myself in the bustling locker room of the East Bay Coliseum where the Oakland Flames had just secured a hard-fought victory. The atmosphere was charged with energy, remnants of the game still lingering in the air. Players were celebrating their win, laughter and shouts echoing off the walls, but Dallas Roque was taking a moment to unwind.

Dallas, still clad in his team gear, sat on a wooden bench, a towel draped over his shoulders, his expression a blend of exhaustion and exhilaration. The locker room was adorned with Flames memorabilia, the scent of sweat and victory palpable. It was the perfect setting to discuss his recent marriage to Ayanna and the journey that had led him to this moment.

As I settled in across from him, he flashed a warm smile, clearly still riding the high of the game. “Ready to talk about my favorite subject?” he quipped, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. It was clear that this was not just a conversation about basketball, but about the new chapter in his life as a husband.

In Love, I Trust Chapter 11: “So… You Don’t Trust Me?”

In Love, I Trust stands as one of my very few small-town romances—my first and only, if I’m not mistaken. And honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted any other characters to be my first. It was also a first for me in terms of writing about a couple who met online, specifically in the comments section on Instagram. There are several chapters in In Love, I Trust that I truly love and that move the story forward. But this chapter? This chapter is where everything is laid out on the table regarding Trey and Serenity’s relationship. Most importantly, it’s the moment where the wall Serenity has been holding up is addressed—the wall Trey has been consciously working to break down. Of all places, it’s a pre-wedding dinner that forces them to confront their issues, holding up a mirror to their relationship and pushing them to get real about its future.

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Pryce Williams from Lust

Pryce Williams is a character I truly adore. If I had to describe the type of character that challenges me to look past my own preconceived notions to tell their story with an unbiased lens, it’s Pryce. He’s a flawed character, and honestly, flawed characters are my best to work with. It’s easy to say you don’t care for him because of his decisions. But when you crack open his shell and look at that man inside, you realize there’s so much more to meet the eye. Love him or hate him, Pryce made Lust a page turner.

Let’s get to know the man who represented the second vice in the Love is Cure series intimately.

Alternate Story Ending: Serenity & Trey (In Love, I Trust)

My social media couple. The only social media couple in my catalog, I think! These two met in the most unique way… in the comment section of an Instagram post! You got to meet them as Kelli and Ryder’s engaged friends in From Friends to Forever. Now, they’re back with an alternate ending that plays on how they first met—arguing over palm oil and jerk seasoning. But this time, things are different. In Love, I Trust will celebrate its one year anniversary this month so this extra time with them is right on time.

I hope you enjoy this alternate ending to In Love, I Trust as much as I enjoyed writing it. Who knows, these two might still have a little more story left in them!

Envy Chapter 1: “You Can’t Buy Me”

Mykal, the main character in Envy—book four in the Love is Cure, Vol. 1 – Vices & Virtues series—is probably the most hated character in the series and maybe even in all of my book world. But I personally loved her growth in Envy! Yes, she was a jealous person who made some questionable decisions, but one thing you can’t deny about Mykal is that she was a go-getter. Her motivations may have been toxic, but when Mykal set her sights on something, she often got it. One of the core premises of Envy was her intense desire for the editor-in-chief position at the magazine she worked for, For The Culture. This chapter serves as a prelude to her ambition to rise to the top, and it’s also where we get Envy’s meet cute!

Inside The Character: Getting to Know Trey Everest from In Love, I Trust

Trey Everest first appeared in When Luke Met Juliette as Luke Lockett’s best friend. He shines in a brief but impactful scene, giving Luke advice that helps him land the love of his life, Juliette. Trey is levelheaded, a great friend, and an adventurer at heart. When I created his character summary, I was immediately drawn to his story. Pairing him with Serenity and the unconventional way they meet felt right, and their story practically wrote itself. Despite Serenity’s hesitation and trust issues, Trey never wavered—and we loved to see it.

Let’s get to know Trey more intimately.

Character Q&A: Ayanna Dale-Roque

On a bright afternoon in Oakland, California, I found myself in the stunning kitchen of Ayanna Dale’s sprawling mansion nestled in the hills. The space exuded elegance with its tasteful decor, soft lighting, and breathtaking views of the city skyline beyond the large windows. As I took a seat at the beautifully set kitchen table, Ayanna smiled warmly, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes.

“This is the table where Dallas asked me to marry him,” she said, her voice filled with fondness. “Well, when he presented the ring and told me to wear it to let him know it was a yes.”

The moment felt charged with history, a symbol of the love and commitment they had built together. Ayanna, dressed in a laid-back yet stylish outfit, radiated a sense of warmth and openness. As we settled in, the atmosphere was relaxed yet intimate, inviting a candid exploration of her journey as a newlywed and the emotions that come with it.

With the gentle hum of life outside and the comfort of their home surrounding us, it was the perfect setting to delve into the complexities of love, commitment, and the joy of a new chapter in her life.

Greed Chapter 2: “You do know I hit you… right?”

Greed is book three in the Love is Cure, Vol. 1 – Vices & Virtues series, and it was one of the reasons I decided to keep creating books for the series. Books 1 (Pride) and 2 (Lust) went so well that I felt inspired to dive into Greed. I had never written a fake-dating romance before, but as soon as I started drafting the chapter summaries, I knew I was going to love it. This chapter has one of my favorite meet-cutes in the series—actually, in all my stories, if I’m being honest. It’s like we’re flies on the wall… or better yet, pigeons perched on a street sign.

Inside The Character: Getting to Know Serenity Payne from In Love, I Trust

Serenity Payne is a character I admire. She’s been driven from the time she was a little girl, and the moment she had the chance to create a life she’d love, she seized it. However, Serenity has also lived much of her life in fear and self-protection—constantly on guard, not wanting to experience the same heartaches she saw the women around her endure, particularly in love.

Serenity took living vicariously pessimistically, and for understandable reasons. Let’s get to know the FMC of a story that, if it hadn’t existed, we might never have gotten From Friends to Forever.

Alternate Story Ending: Monah and Prince (Chateau Luxure)

Just like Beyoncé’s song “Just For Fun” off her album Cowboy Carter, my short story Chateau Luxure was just for fun. There wasn’t a huge premise behind it, other than it being the tale of a woman who was taken to an all-male brothel to have a night of fun after accidentally revealing that she had yet to experience a mind-shattering night with a man.

I’ve toyed with the idea of creating an extended story about Chateau Luxure. The place has already appeared in at least two other stories—Lust and Envy—and this supposed paradise for women may be a spot I revisit in future stories.

For now, enjoy this alternate ending to Chateau Luxure, featuring the main character, Monah, and her male companion for the night, Prince.

Meant to Be Chapter 12: “Why The F**k Won’t You Let Him Go, Huh?!

Another friends-to-lovers story where the FMC is so wrapped up in her past that she won’t allow her future to overshadow it. Meant to Be is a story I think of often, and one of the reasons is because of this chapter. Throughout the entire book, we watch as Genesis and August navigate the tricky transition from friendship to situationship. They’re both grieving the loss of their cheating spouses in their own ways and falling in love with each other at the same time. But in this chapter, it’s clear that Genesis is so tied to her past that she’s referring to her future by the wrong name.

Character Q&A: Simeon King

On a crisp morning in Oakland, California, I found myself in the heart of Simeon King’s high-end office at King Sports Management (KSM). The office, located in a sleek high-rise, boasted expansive windows with a stunning view of the city skyline. The space was tastefully decorated with modern, high-end furnishings, and the air was filled with the scent of fresh coffee.

Simeon, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit with a neatly groomed beard, sat comfortably in a stylish leather chair behind his polished mahogany desk. The room was a testament to his success and high standards, with minimalist art adorning the walls and a state-of-the-art sound system softly playing instrumental jazz in the background.

“I’m glad you came by,” Simeon said, taking a sip of his coffee. “This interview is for Dallas, correct?”

I clarified that the focus of the interview was more on him than on Dallas, piquing Simeon’s curiosity.

With a hint of surprise and intrigue in his eyes, Simeon adjusted to the new direction of the conversation. As we began to explore topics from his past, it became clear that Simeon had not anticipated this shift. His reflections on Eryn Peters, his first love, revealed a nostalgic side that was both endearing and enlightening, offering a glimpse into a story filled with emotional depth and unresolved connections.

The unexpected focus on his past hinted at a compelling backstory soon to be revealed in his upcoming story, Sloth.

This chapter pissed off a lot of readers but also made them fall even more in love with the MMC, Dallas Roque. He left his heart on the table in this chapter, and we couldn’t help but feel frustrated with the FMC, Ayanna. It was a pivotal scene that challenged the characters’ resolves and put their wills on full display. Chapter Nineteen became one of the most highlighted chapters in So This is Love—and for very good reason.

Mr & Mrs Jones Chapter 8: “What’s The Most Expensive Bottle Of Champagne?”

To know me is to know that one of my favorite stories, if not the favorite, is Girl Code. Right behind it is the sequel, Mr. & Mrs. Jones. I knew I’d be writing this sequel the moment I typed “The End” on Girl Code. I just really loved Melodee and Amir—both as individual characters and as a couple. There were so many moments I couldn’t wait to write in Mr. & Mrs. Jones, and this scene in Chapter Eight was at the top of the list.

In Girl Code, one of the major turning points was Melodee’s divorce. It was a deeply painful experience that left her confused. The aftermath—like her ex-husband expecting a baby before the ink on their divorce papers dried—was enough to send anyone into a depressive spiral. But, fate brought her and Amir back together just when she needed an escape the most, distracting her from her new reality as a divorcee. In this sequel, payback comes in the classiest way possible, making this chapter one you won’t forget.
