First Stop: From Friends to Forever – A Serialized Romance to Love

On the first stop of our tour, we’re taking a peek at the very first serialized romance in the premium newsletter… From Friends to Forever.

This friends-to-lovers romance is an extension of In Love, I Trust and takes place in Rose Hill. The main characters, Kelli and Ryder, have been inseparable since childhood, and they’ve also been close friends with In Love, I Trust’s main character, Serenity.

Ryder is an accomplished songwriter who spends most of his time traveling for work. But after wrapping up a reality show (One Mic) and a promotional tour, he’s back in Rose Hill. This return proves to be life-changing, as Ryder finds himself falling for his best friend, Kelli.

This story will have you hooked from the first few episodes. Kelli and Ryder’s bond as friends makes their transition into lovers both heartwarming and exciting.

KELLI

Gathering my courage, I knocked lightly on the doorframe. Ryder looked up, a warm smile spreading across his handsome face. “Hey, sleepyhead.”

“Morning,” I said, stepping into his room. “All your singing and playing got me up earlier than I wanted.”

“Aww, I’m sorry,” he said, pressing a hand to his chest.

I shook my head. “Don’t apologize, I’m just playing with you. It’s beautiful. What are you playing?”

“Just something I’ve been working on.” His fingers returned to the keys as he began playing a couple of notes again. “How’d you sleep?”

I shrugged. “Okay.”

That was a lie. The truth was, I’d tossed and turned all night, my mind racing with thoughts of him leaving. Ryder patted the small leather bench in front of his electric piano, inviting me to sit. I didn’t hesitate to join him, the cool leather pressing against my thighs.

“You want to talk about it?” he asked gently, searching my eyes for the answer before I could give it.

I shook my head, forcing a smile.

I felt like such a punk. Afraid of the unknown and too much of a punk to admit it.

“I’ve always wondered how you’re able to play the piano so well, even while you talk,” I said, trying to change the subject. “How do you know where to place your fingers to deliver a note, let alone create songs?”

Ryder looked at me for a moment longer, eyes darting along my face in silence. He tucked his lips into his mouth and smiled, turning back to the piano. “It’s all about muscle memory and practice, kid. And because I’m that fucking fly.”

I sputtered a laugh.

“I don’t got all day to show you how to be fly like me, but here…” Ryder took my hand. “I can show you a little somethin’, somethin’.”

Ryder placed my hands on the white keys, guiding my fingers as he helped me play a few notes. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down my spine.

“Your hands are so soft,” he said, eyes focused on my hand and the keys. “You’d be a natural if you decided to take up piano since you already like working with your hands.”

Ryder began playing a simple melody, his hands over mine, helping me find the right notes. My heart picked up its rhythm, beating so hard I could faintly hear it beneath the notes we played.

“See? You’re a natural,” Ryder said softly, his breath warm against my ear.
