MALCOLM
I spritzed the air with my cologne and walked into the falling mist, running my hands down my slim-fit dress shirt when done.

On a bright afternoon in her Brooklyn Heights brownstone, Rylee Daniels welcomed me into her stylish kitchen. The space exuded a modern elegance with its black marble countertops and a full stainless steel package, reflecting the light beautifully. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, perfectly complementing the gentle sounds of her children playing in the living room, just out of earshot.
Rylee was effortlessly chic, wearing her braids pulled up into a neat bun at the crown of her head. Dressed in a relaxed yet sophisticated outfit, she looked every bit the poised and thoughtful woman she’s become. As we sipped our coffee, the conversation naturally turned towards her past, her feelings about moving on, and the complex emotions that accompany new beginnings.
Rylee was candid, offering a window into her heart while maintaining a graceful composure.

Simeon King is a character I’ve been eager to dive into. He embodies diligence—the kind of diligence that we often overlook but is at the core of everything we love in a main male character. Simeon’s dedication, whether it’s in getting the girl, being the best for her, or pushing through life’s challenges, is his foundation. In Sloth, his growth might not be as significant as Eryn’s, but his diligence shines in every chapter. His greatest struggle? Trying to distract himself from the lingering pain of losing Eryn, the love of his life.
The Power of Distraction
One of the things that will stand out about Simeon is that he’s more than just a sports agent—he’s a businessman through and through. But his relentless drive isn’t just about ambition; it’s a tool he uses to avoid confronting his unresolved feelings for Eryn. Early in Sloth, Simeon says something in his first chapter that he walks back later, a clear indication that he’s been lying to himself. In truth, he’s been holding his breath, waiting to exhale in Eryn’s presence once again.
Simeon throws himself into projects, taking on nearly impossible feats just to feel the rush of excitement that Eryn once brought into his life. From his career to his social life, everything he does serves one purpose: to distract himself from the void left by her absence. Though he’s passionate about his work, there’s always the sense that something is missing—his heart is still waiting for Eryn.
A Love Deferred was written entirely for the readers. Initially, I hadn’t planned on continuing the story from Unsilent Knight—it was just a Christmas story I wanted to tell. Plus, Girl Code was due for release that month, and I wanted to include a sneak peek at the end of Unsilent Knight. But readers loved Cadence and Meki, and honestly, I did too. So, working on A Love Deferred to extend their story was a joy.
Their story explores what happens when enemies become lovers, with one falling slower than the other. In chapter six, a pivotal moment for Cadence and Meki unfolds—and it all begins with the smell of bacon in the air.

Lauryn James is by far one of my favorite heroines. I have never written a character like Lauryn. Mainly because I always feared that I would feel too deeply as I wrote a story like hers and her experience with trauma. I dreaded writing her story because of this. There was even a moment in the writing process where I felt I needed to take a break to conduct my version of a character Q&A. I had to do that because I’d developed her guarded character so well, she was even guarded towards me! But once Lauryn let me into the bones of her character, I was rooting for her from inception. To this day, I would ride for Lauryn James.
Let’s get to know a character who truly deserved the happily ever after she received.

I slammed my laptop lid closed and grunted for effect. “This disrespectful little motherfuc—”
My phone vibrated beside my laptop with a call, interrupting my vent. I released the air I’d been holding in during my pissed-off state and instantly released the tension in my shoulders.
Malcolm Lawson’s name appeared on the screen as the phone continued vibrating.
RYDER
My fingertips glided over Kelli’s clit, moving with a practiced rhythm. She writhed beside me, tightening her grip around my erection, sliding her hand back and forth faster. I groaned and smirked, pressing my finger pads firmer against her bundle of nerves, leaning in for a kiss before she pulled away, giggling.

August and Genesis are a couple who truly deserve their happily ever after. One of the things I love about Brookelynite Daily is the chance to offer my characters their happy endings not just once, but twice. After everything they’ve been through, they certainly deserve it. I’m excited to catch up with them again soon. For now, I hope this alternate ending brings you as much joy as it brought me while writing it!
