Ebb & Flow Chapter 7: “I Doubt I Can Be As Happy With Someone Else, Naazir”

If there was one couple I could say I rooted so hard for, it was Nubia and Naazir. When I originally worked on their summer romance in the short story An Unexpected Love, I fell hard for them. They were truly my introduction to opposites attract. From different worlds but drawn to each other with the commonality of being in love with something deeper than the surface could ever reveal. I really love these two. So it was important they reunited after those very painful chapters we had to endure… which in the future we will tackle. But for now, let’s get into this reunion we so needed between a couple whose souls were intertwined and simply destined to be.

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Joelle Victors from Indecent Arrangement

Joelle Victors may not have had much airtime in my book world, with only a short story and an erotic suspense, but once you meet her you won’t forget her… or her story. I’ve toyed with the idea of giving Joelle a spinoff story, but nothing has come to me naturally yet. Still, I loved how twisty and crazy her tale was and really liked Joelle as an FMC. Some of her history was hinted at in her story, but there’s so much more to know about Joelle.

Let’s get to know Joelle more intimately.

The Steps for Building Ayla and Hassani Franklin

I’m on my—I don’t even know what number—read through of My Only, and at this point, I’m reading more for pleasure than looking for things to add or change. I’m obsessed with all aspects of this story, sincerely, and to me, that’s a very good sign.

Every so often, I’ll come across a book I’ve written that makes me say, If no one likes it, I know I love it. And that’s enough.

My Only is another one of those books. I’m confident it’ll be loved, but even if it wasn’t, my love will be enough. Everyone else’s love? That’s just extra. And it’s all because of these two.

Ayla and Hassani.

These two have officially secured their place at the top of my favorite couples list. They have. Their vulnerability with each other, their journey through forever… my goodness.

While My First, My Last followed the theme of a track and field race, My Only follows the theme of architecture—from the blueprint to the forever home. And like My First, My Last, I really did something with this spinoff, and especially with these characters. It all happened in steps.

Steps to Building Hassani Franklin

Step 1 – Patience

Step 2 – Determination

Step 3 – Emotional Security

Step 4 – Vision

Step 5 – Boundless Hope

Character Q&A: Zoe Greene (neé Stewart)

Zoe Greene (née Stewart) was always one of my most grounded characters, and when I asked to meet her for her Q&A, she insisted we sit down in her baby boy’s nursery. Located in the sprawling estate she and Bryant now call home in Long Island, Zoe welcomed me into one of the newly renovated rooms, where she and Bryant have made so many memories with their son already.

The nursery is cozy, with soft dove-gray walls (a compromise with Bryant, who wanted everything blue), and gentle string lights add a warm glow to the space. A plush rug underfoot contrasts the polished wood floors, and the crib is flanked by shelves of carefully chosen baby books and stuffed animals. The soft hum of a baby monitor can be heard in the background as her baby sleeps soundly. Zoe and I relax on the couch, her eyes occasionally drifting toward the crib, a picture of calm and contentment.

Zoe smiles as she sips her tea. “I never thought I’d be a mom,” she admits, glancing back at her son. “But now? I couldn’t imagine life without him.”

Greed Chapter 15: “Zoe, I’m In Love With You”

I love all of the stories in the Love is Cure, Vol. 1 – Vices & Virtues series, but Greed is definitely one of my favorites. I had never written a fake dating trope before this book, and I realized how much fun it is to play with a storyline like that. Even in fake dating though, feelings can get involved—and that’s exactly what happened here. What started off as a strategic plan quickly turned into something real. Bryant, a man who’s all about his money, comes to understand that while money can get you a lot of things, it can’t replace true love. And once that becomes clear, he sets out to get back to the one woman who makes him want to choose love over dollar signs.

Let me tell you about this age-gap romance I wrote…

Last year, when I was mapping out my calendar of stories to work on, this one, the one I’m about to tell you about, landed on the list. A little bullet under “future projects.” But then I started writing My Only, and once I was deep in Ayla and Hassani’s world, one of my favorite couples had such a tight grip on me, I genuinely wasn’t sure I had another story in me.

When I say My Only is one of those books that makes you want to cancel everything just to get to the end, I’m not being dramatic. I canceled quite a few things just to land that plane, because their happily ever after? It was earned. And I wasn’t about to delay it… not even for me.

But this post isn’t about Ayla and Hassani. (Although… one of the main characters from this story is linked to Hassani. But more on that much later 😉.)

Right now, I want to tell you about the story that brought me back to my laptop to start writing another book… my very first age-gap romance that pairs an older woman with a younger man. And my gawd, the sparks between them? Instantaneous. The second they’re on the same page… whew.

But okay, let’s back it up a little because of course, I have to give context. Walk with me…

The original spark for this story came from a series I wanted to work on that was tied to my  Love, Hate & Revenge series. The series would have been centered on a specific setting, The Braxton Hotel, which made its first appearance in Part 1 of the LHR series. I wanted to build something out from there. But many stories later, that original premise lost some of its shine for me.

Still, I knew I wasn’t done exploring the idea of a Black luxury hospitality empire. I just needed to find a new angle. And that curiosity led me straight to Arielle St. James—the poised, pressurized hotel heiress—and Micah Black, her rooftop lounge’s brand-new bartender.

Their story is a novella, but it feels like more. The kind of story where the characters started talking before they even had names. I came this close to pushing everything else aside to write it last year. But I’ve learned to trust the process. Patience really is a virtue.

And you’ll need a little of it too, because this story—How to Lose Control in 42 Days—isn’t dropping until autumn. On my birthday, actually. A full-circle kind of release.

I’ve got so much more to share about these two. But for now, here’s what I can give you:

Inside the Character: Getting to Know Dallas Roque from So This is Love

Dallas was an MMC we all loved from his short story in Forbidden: An Anthology. He was the brother with the level head and the friend of Ayanna Dale. He had love for her from the moment they met during their freshman year, but bad decisions and a fear of compromising the easy friendship they fell into kept both Dallas and Ayanna from taking things to the next level. It’s always a pleasure to catch up with Dallas wherever he is.

Let’s get to know Dallas a little more intimately.

How Can I Write At a Time Like This?!

… as I write at a time like this 😌.

I ask myself this often.

Let me give some context.

I’ve picked up a new interest lately that kind of came out of nowhere… watching art history documentaries on YouTube. It started with a random video about Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, and ever since then, I’ve been hooked.

A common theme I’ve noticed in these stories is that many of these iconic works of art were created during times of hardship. Political unrest. Religious persecution. War. And yet, art was still made.

And as I add the finishing touches to my next release, My Only, and prepare for its promo season, it made me think… about now.
