The Grand Finale: Alternate Story Endings You Can’t Miss

Alternate Story Endings are one of the favorite perks in Brookelynite Daily.

Have you ever wondered what happens to couples after their happily-ever-after? Alternate Story Endings give readers a peek into life after the last chapter.

These endings go beyond what’s hinted at when my characters make cameos in future stories or glimpses. They offer a full view of what life in love looks like.

Check out these snippets from two alternate story endings:

Bryant Greene and Zoe Stewart were introduced in Greed, book 3 of the Love is Cure series. Since that time, these two have gotten engaged, married, and pregnant, all updates we learned via their cameos and Glimpses. Here, the two are faced with a new dilemma in the form of a legacy gift and demonstrate how much they have lived and learned through the lessons they learned in their story.

BRYANT

“I got a very interesting phone call this morning,” she said, folding her arms.

“Did you?” I leaned in and kissed her on the lips then placed a hand on the small of her back to guide her to one of the armchairs opposite my desk.

“Mm-hmm.” She nodded, settling into the armchair and lifting her eyes to me as I took a seat at the edge of my desk across from her. “From a Mr. Sinclair?”

I blinked. “Okay…?”

“Calling me about a legacy gift?”

“Ah, yes.” I smiled. “A Greene family tradition.”

“Uh-huh.” She tilted her head. “See, I didn’t know what that was until he explained that upon confirmation of a Greene family member’s upcoming arrival, they reach out to offer support in selecting a legacy gift. A small gesture to recognize the mother’s role in continuing the family line.”

I nodded. “That’s correct.”

“A push gift,” she said dryly.

That knocked the smile off my face. “I’m sorry?”

“A legacy gift is just a fancy way of saying push gift… something men get their women for pushing out their babies.”

“Well,” I chuckled, “that sounds a little brash.”

She shut her eyes, inhaled a breath, and shook her head. “Bryant, I don’t need a reward for having our baby.”

I sighed. “Zoe—”

“I’m happy just having our baby.” She shook her head. “I don’t need a push gift to say thank you for that.”

My wife. She and I got along on almost everything, and married life felt like such a blessing I sometimes didn’t feel deserving of it. The only challenge in our relationship, if you could call it that, was her tendency to turn down anything with monetary value. It was frustrating because if I could drown her in gifts, I would—but she made it so damn difficult.

Everett Peters and Apryl Wilde made excellent first impressions on readers who enjoyed them in Gluttony, book 5 of the Love is Cure series. Since their appearance, the two have made their relationship official, moved in together, and have gotten engaged. Here in this alternate ending, we go back to the moment they moved into their new duplex together.

EVERETT

“Big day,” I said, walking toward her.

“Mm-hmm,” she replied, unwrapping the item and placing it on the nearby table.

“You know we don’t have to get to these right now, right?” I asked. “We could just chill for the rest of the day. Deal with it tomorrow.”

“I know,” she said, but she kept working on the box.

I stepped behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist. I immediately felt the tension in her body ease as she leaned into me.

Like I said, I knew this day would be both exciting and nerve-wracking for her. Although she still had her townhouse nearby, it was up for sale. I knew how much that house meant to her and what it represented.

I kissed her cheek, hearing her sigh as she relaxed even further against me. She had no idea how much I loved being her safe space—the one person she could lean on and let go of whatever weighed on her heart.

“How you feelin’, baby?” I asked, my lips brushing against her ear.

“I’m not sure,” she admitted. “I mean, I feel great because I want this—I really want this. But it’s a little scary too, you know?”

“I know,” I said softly. “You’ve given so much of yourself to this relationship, to us. And I know that wasn’t easy. It wasn’t easy for me either. This is some brave-ass shit we’re doing here, given where we’re coming from.”

She snickered. “Mm-hmm.”

“But we’re here doing it,” I whispered. “And I can’t even tell you how proud I am of you.”
