Character Q&A Couples Edition: Whitney & Deion

I sit across from Whitney and Deion inside the BBMC Diner, just across the street from Brooklyn Bay Medical Center. The familiar hum of conversation fills the restaurant, blending with soft music playing through the speakers overhead. Nurses, doctors, and hospital staff come and go between shifts, many greeting Whitney and Deion as they pass. They’re on call and are taking this time to fuel up on coffee and sit for a quick chat with me. Three steaming mugs of coffee sit on the table between us as the two settle comfortably into one of the booths.

“This booth might as well have my name on it,” Whitney says with a laugh. “Me and my girl Jazzy have made this our second home. This booth is basically the couch in our living room.”

Deion snickers. “And she is not joking.”

The ease between them is impossible to miss. They’re lighter now. More settled. More certain. It’s hard to believe their relationship began with a lie… which feels like the perfect place to begin.
