Character Q&A w/ Dr. Liz: Nubia Merci

I sit out of view once again in Dr. Liz Peters’s basement office while she catches up with her latest guest… though “guest” might be the better word today.

Across from her sits Nubia, friend first, client second… maybe.

The office feels even softer than the last time I was here. Greenery spills from nearly every corner, vines trailing from shelves and windowsills while the soft trickle of the tabletop waterfall behind Dr. Liz’s desk fills the room with calm. Warm lighting bounces off the earth-toned walls, and the scent of peppermint tea lingers faintly in the air.

“I see you made some additions to the space,” Nubia comments, eyes scanning the office around her. “I love everything. The plants really add the perfect calm in here. It’s perfect.”

“Well, I learned from the best,” Dr. Liz replies, her eyes slanting warmly with her smile. “My daughter said it looks like a jungle in here now.”

Nubia tips her head back with a laugh. “It’s beautiful.”

Although Nubia and Dr. Liz became friends years ago after Nubia redecorated Dr. Liz’s upstairs home and the basement office she now sat in, she has never sat across from her in the leather chaise as a client… until now.
