Character Q&A Couples Edition: Duane & Diana

We’re seated at a table inside Harmony Brew, a cozy café in the heart of Rose Hill. It’s midday on a Thursday, and the place is comfortably busy. Espresso machines hum behind the counter while smooth café jazz drifts through the room, threading through conversations and the occasional clink of ceramic mugs. Steam rises from the coffee sitting in front of us, dancing with the surrounding air.

Across from me sit Duane and Diana… a couple who almost never became one again after life pulled them in different directions years ago.

Diana reaches down and runs her fingertips over an old etching of initials carved into the wooden tabletop.

“Duane did that.”

Duane, his arm comfortably draped across the back of Diana’s chair, grins without an ounce of shame.

“Guilty.”

She laughs, shaking her head.

“I remember seeing it for the first time after we reconnected. If you had asked me then whether we’d end up sitting here like this after everything we’d been through… I would’ve told you there wasn’t a chance.”

Looking at them now, it’s hard to believe there was ever a time they weren’t each other’s home.

And that feels like the perfect place to begin.
