Archetype Deep Dive: Romello “Mello” St. Claire
Romello “Mello” St. Claire stepped into No Fraternizing, Pt. 2 and shifted the whole storyline without even trying. I remember developing Mello’s character and thinking to myself, “Uh-oh.” Lol. It was “uh-oh” because I’d realized I created a really likable guy and one readers wouldn’t forget the moment he stepped onto the page.
And I was right.
Mello is the kind of character who stands out without trying. He has a vision of who he wants to be and does what he has to do to get there. Achievement is what motivates him. Being the best is what keeps him disciplined.
Beneath the desire to be the boss and rule with style, he’s a survivor, turning undesirable circumstances into an array of possibilities. On the surface, people see a hustler, but beneath it all, he’s a dreamer, a visionary, and a natural-born leader with a really big heart.
So, what’s his archetype?
The Ruler.
