Character Q&A Couples’ Edition: Eryn & Simeon

I settle into an armchair tucked into the corner of the patio outside Eryn and Simeon’s three-level, loft-style condo in Oakland, California. The afternoon is quiet, the kind of calm that feels especially precious when there’s a new baby in the house.

Eryn and Simeon sit across from each other, ready to take the reins of their own interview while I stay comfortably out of the way.

At least… that’s the plan.

“You think you can take your eyes off our son long enough to do this thing, beloved?” Simeon asks as Eryn reaches for the video monitor sitting beside her.

She laughs. “I glanced at the monitor once.”

“Twice,” he corrects with a smirk. “But I get it. I love watching him too.”

“He’s just so cute!”

She picks up the monitor anyway, staring at the screen for another few seconds before reluctantly setting it back down.

It’s obvious that both of them would much rather be inside, close to their sleeping son, than sitting out here talking about him.

So I let them get to it.
